Exodus (Program #65) – The Veil Over the Ministry of Condemnation and Death

When Moses received the commandment of God for His people, his face was shining as a reflection of God’s glory and grace.  Yet when apostle Paul refers back to the event in his second epistle to the Corinthians, he call that ministry, a ministry of condemnation and death.  How does something full of God’s glory and grace become an instruction of condemnation and death?   You will not want to miss today’s life study of the Bible with Witness Lee.

To help us get into this message, we need to consider a couple of passages in Scripture in Old Testament portion from Exodus 34 and the New Testament section from 2 Corinthians.  This comparison is going to be very interesting.

Exodus (Program #64) – Apart From the Living God the Law Becoming the Killing Letters

God’s eternal purpose is to work Himself into us as our life so that we may take Him as our person to live Him and to express Him. This is the desire of God’s heart; it is also the focal point of the Bible including the book of Exodus. Stay with us today as we are drawn again to God’s intention and heart’s desire even as He gave man the revelation of His law and commandments.

This program again brings us into the Exodus of God’s people and the continuing unveiling of how this story is really our story as well. In Exodus 19 and 20, God gave the commandments to the people, most people know them as the ten commandments.  Right away the people responded with this word, “All that God has said we will do”.  That seems good enough when we read it but this was really a window that exposes a lot about the people.  Why is it such a telling remark showing that the people were a long way from where God desires them to be? more…

Exodus (Program #63) – The Negative Aspect of the Giving of the Law (3)

The living of Christ was reproduced in Stephen.  When our brother Stephen was being stoned, was he wondering what would Jesus do in this situation?  How am I suppose to conduct myself when I am being stoned?  He was just loving the Lord, one with the Lord and the Lord was living in him.

The Bible commands us to do many things, even beyond the well-known ten commandments.  Page after page of Scripture can seem like one demand after another.  A lot of people shy away from the Bible for just this reason, because they are well aware that every attempt to carry out the demand seems to be met with discouraging failure.  So what should be our response whenever we are faced with a “thou shall not” or “thou shall”?  Stay tune for the surprising answer on today’s life study of the Bible with Witness Lee.

Exodus (Program #62) – The Negative Aspect of the Giving of the Law (2)

We’ve all heard of the ten commandments, that most well-known portion of the Old Testament.  Actually, the Bible is full of commandments far beyond those ten originally.  When God commands His people to do something, what response is He looking for?  You may well be surprised as we touch this intriguing question during the next 30 minutes.  Stay we us for the life study of the Bible with Witness Lee.

The ten commandments were delivered by God to Moses in Exodus chapter 19 and 20.  Moses in turn passed them on to the children of Israel, the Jews.  How God’s New Testament people, the Christians should relate to these commandments has been a topic of major discussions or even debates or sometimes controversy for all this past 20 centuries.  Why is it such a difficult issue for believer to deal with?

Exodus (Program #61) – The Negative Aspect of the Giving of the Law and Its Function (1)

God is light and in Him there is no darkness at all. Yet the law that He gave to His people in Exodus chapter 20 sometimes may seem to bring us darkness. What determines whether it’s light or darkness is not God – it’s all the time dependent on our condition. We will see why sometimes we experience God in the light and other times when we touch His word, we are brought into darkness.

Throughout this series of messages related to the law as it was given by the Lord through Moses to His people Israel, a metaphor has been used to help convey two opposite functions of the law – this is an analogy of day and night. Between God and man or between His word and man seems like there’s always these two aspects.  Mainly we’ve been focusing on the “day” aspect of the law up until today.  more…

Exodus (Program #60) – The Blessing Received by the Loving Seekers of God Through His Law as His Living Word (2)

In the Bible, God promises many different blessings to His people. We may seek outward blessings of material prosperity or physical health. But of all the blessings He may bestow on us, the highest blessing is that He would become our portion. What is it to have God as our portion?

We return again today to the book of Exodus, the remarkable journey of God’s people out of the bondage of the worldly captivity and through the wilderness.  We are going to divert a little bit today specifically in this life study of Exodus and spend most of our time at Psalm 119. This psalm fits very well into this examination of the law of God that was given in Exodus. There’s no portion of God’s word that speaks so exhaustively and completely concerning the law of God in Psalm 119.

We’re going to begin today by considering the law or the commandments from the point of view of a testimony – a testimony of a person that gives or makes the law. What does it mean that the law of God shows us God? more…

Exodus (Program#59) – The Blessing Received by the Loving Seekers of God Through His Law as His Living Word (1)

The Bible is the most wonderful book of books.   God revealed that the words in it are the very breath and that He himself is embodied in it.  Yet to some, all they see are the controversies and seeming inconsistencies.  Even to us Christians at times,  it seems to be merely a book of history and hard to understand proverb.   Should we settle for this or do we need to be desperate to contact the living God each and every time we come to His word?

On this particular program, we encourage everyone who is listening to pray this prayer “Lord, while I am listening to this broadcast, help me to turn my heart to You all the ways.”

The Bible should always be something beneficial.  It’s the bread of life.  It’s God’s word.  Surely, it should always bring some kind of help to us.  But we all know at times, we come away seemingly with nothing.  Even sometimes we don’t touch God and we only see may be history or events.  And at other times it seems like there may be even contradictions that plague us and bother us, just leave people questioning whether it is even true or not. Is this what Paul the apostle meant in 1 Corinthians 6 when he said “the letter kills but the Spirit gives life”?

Exodus (Program#58) – The Function of God’s Word as His Living Word to His Loving Seekers

Have you ever wondered why to some people the Bible can be full of sweetness and satisfaction, even encouragement; while to others it can be quite the opposite – it may seem harsh, demanding or may be just boring. Even within a single person, it may be one moment the former and in another moment the latter. What changes?  Well, God’s word is eternally the same and it is His very breath. Whether we experience it as life or death altogether depends on us. If you’ve ever struggled to enter into the richness and sweetness of God’s word, please don’t miss this classical presentation on today’s life study of the Bible.

All believers have struggled with this matter at one time or another in their Christian life. Maybe the Bible was very living, very sweet when we first got saved. But then something seems to change and we can’t seem to get the same burst of spiritual energy or nourishment from simply reading and studying. This is probably very common for most believers. It doesn’t have to be this way. It’s not supposed to be this way. more…

Exodus (Program #57) – How the Old Testament Seekers of God Enjoyed His Law (2)

On the mountain of God in the wilderness between Egypt and Canaan, God gave the commandments to His people.  Yet if we would look at how the Lord give the law to His people, we would see the law came with God’s presence.  If we can come to His presence whenever we come to the Word, the Bible will be a much different book to us.

Again we’re going to look at the law of commandments or the ten commandments that were delivered to the people in Exodus 19 and 20.  Usually these commandments are thought of in a heavy and burdensome way but today’s fellowship is going to bring our listeners into a much different appreciation of the commandments.

Exodus (Program #56) – How the Old Testament Seekers of God Enjoyed His Law (1)

The law was given by God to His people in the book of Exodus but it became a dominant feature and theme throughout the entire Old Testament; the Psalmist touched in many places particularly Psalms 1:19 the longest of the Psalms and this is devoted entirely to the enjoyment of the law. Did you ever consider the law of God as the source of sweet and intimate fellowship with God full of enjoyment?  Stay with us for this marvelous life-study message.

This is the life-study of Exodus but we are going to spend the entire program today in the Psalms.  Mostly in Psalms 1:19 where the writer, the psalmist, speaks about the law but he does it almost as if the law were a person. It’s full of love and intimacy. I sense this is someone who is a real seeker. To get into the heart of this Psalms, we need the background of what we’ve seen in the past few programs.
